Starting Stardate 65623 Launch Date for Voyager: September 15, 2409 Main Plot started: December 5, 2009
In 2371 Captain Janeway took command of an intrepid class starship, the USS Voyager. The vessel’s first mission was to locate a missing Maquis vessel that had disappeared in the Badlands. Given the navigational challenge in this region of space, she proposed to Admiral Patterson to rehabilitate ex-Maquis Tom Paris, from the Federation’s New Zealand Penal Colony, in exchange for his help in finding the ship. In exchange, Janeway offered Paris help with his next out mate review.
While in the Badlands, Voyager was engulfed by a huge energy wave that hurled them 70, 000 light years into the far side of the Delta Quadrant, in the same way that it did the Maquis vessel. Janeway soon discovered that the Caretaker, a being who was trying to find a way to reproduce as he was dying, had brought them to the Delta Quadrant. The Caretaker told Janeway of how he and another like him had accidentally destroyed the Ocampa home world. After the entity’s death, Janeway destroyed the Caretaker’s array to keep it from falling into the hands of the Kazon. The destruction of the array ultimately destroyed the Voyager’s only way of returning home.
It took Janeway and her crew 23 years of travel before they finally reached Earth, since Janeway decided to destroy the Borg Conduit instead of using it to get home. After destroying it, she spent many months in her quarters trying to convince herself that she had made the right decision, and ultimately concluded that had she changed the course of the future the outcome may have been far worse than anyone could have possibly imagined. During their time in the Delta Quadrant they met many new species and discovered new territories and planetary bodies. They brought the information back home with them to the Alpha Quadrant hoping that it would help expand the Federation’s knowledge of that area of space.
Upon their return 23 years later, they had assumed that they had defeated the Borg, but in reality the Queen and several thousand drones survived. After only a few months after their return, the Borg attacked Earth, determined to bring Starfleet and the human population to its feet. For five years the Federation managed to defend their home planet, but many civilians and Starfleet personnel were lost to assimilation or death.
Presently, Starfleet has been building a Gateway that will lead them to a planet in the Delta Quadrant so that they can rebuild their lives and civilization. Their plan is to destroy the gateway so that the Borg won’t be able to use it to find them, since the Queen and her drones are constantly attacking them. Voyager was outfitted with new technology, and its mission is to keep the Gateway safe from the Borg, as Voyager is one of the only ships left in the fleet that is capable of taking on this great task.
The human race is at the brink of destruction; will they be able to find enough resources to finish the Gateway, and to establish a new life on a new planet? Or will they face assimilation by the Borg and ultimately be erased from existence?
