Earplugs.
That's what she needed. A set of earplugs. Any kind would do. It would be more bearable than this nonsense.
It was dinner time in the great hall, and still early enough in the year that the new students at the school were still over-excited. Loudly over-excited. Johanna's head was pounding, to the point that at the moment, eating seemed more like a nasty habit, than a necessity. You'd think they could be overjoyed a little quieter. Had she been like that? She couldn't remember. She toyed with a salad with her fork, not really eating it. She had only taken a bite or two so far.
Before long, Johanna dropped the fork, and pushed her plate aside. She looked up the table each way, to see if there was anyone close by that she could distract her aching head with, before standing up, and slowly making her way down the aisle, and out of the great hall. She traced the hallways without putting much thought into where she wanted to go, or where she was already going. Before she had even decided whether she wanted to go to the common room or the library, she was standing in front of the common room door, staring blankly ahead, before stating the password in a barely there voice.
Now that she was out of the great hall, and away from the noise, all she could hear was a monotonous ringing, a result of the sudden lack of noise. She looked around the common room, just as blankly as she had walked all the way here. There were only a handful of students scattered around the room. Mainly students who, like herself, had decided to skip the noise up in the great hall.
She had successfully gotten rid of the yelling, but now she had a headache, and that annoying ringing to worry about.
