The last diary entry of a Mr. Robert Showhansen, founder of the Better Days Asylum:
The entry was made exactley four minutes and thirty three seconds before his death. He left his office, turned round the corner, and burned down the right wing with him. But, the only evidence left was this single paper from the diary, that survived the flames. The only thing on the CCTV cameras next to the wing? A black, hard-to-make-out figure entering the wing. Robert Showhansen had been taken by the Darkness, and it had destroyed him.
The year is now 2401, and the Better Days Asylum has, infact, thrived without the old man. Wings were rebuilt, patients were moved from temporary accomodation into the new areas, and life seemed to go on. A new head doctor was bought in, and people tended to forget about the incident. Of course there is evidence of what happened, be it torched bits of the new wing that haven't been replaced yet, or old patients that seem to have their own versions of what happened. But between people, the incident is generically forgotten.
Dear Diary,
The year has recently ticked over to 2357, and I am still unsure if it's a good thing. The economy is fixed, the money is different, and the taste for life seems to be back. But rejoicing over such facts are not even an option. How dare we, when this.. this.. disease is spreading through the corridors of the place like a slow-moving flood. The people I thought i knew best are dropping around me like flies, and I can't help but wonder what is going to happen if I, too, get taken.
The Better Days Asylum couldn't possibly function without me, could it? I am the only ones, apart from you, dear friend, that know the secrets of this place. That know the blood that pumps through the human's veins like the back of my hand. I am no stranger to science. I am no longer afraid of death. I have stared it in the eyes and seen it only to be a kitten. We have to use this. We can't sit by, and let the strange disease-like curse to carry on it's course through society. The figure roams the halls, and I am sure that it has a bounty on my head. I've seen it, along with many of the new patients here at the asylum. The black, smoky figure. I can't make a definate shape out of it, but it seems to like the generic shape of a man, or a human, at least.
