1977.
Another new year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, unknowingly full of more mischief and magic than ever before - the year that matters the most to some, and means so little to others. The letters go out, to older, seasoned students to return and continue their magical studies, as well as the newer ones who will only just begin their journey and discovery of the magical world. The professors and the staff of the school come back into the swing of their normal routines, ready to teach the prepared lessons for the new year. New faces are seen in both staff and student alike, but it is all part of the natural environment of the castle and its educational legacy.
Headmaster Albus Dumbledore is eccentric as usual, though there had been other things on his mind - some that have gone on secretly and kept under wraps in the Ministry. There have been a string of murders and suspicion of a cult-like group of Dark wizards, yet the head of it all has been unknown. Not to mention that Hogwarts alumni Tom Riddle appeared at the castle over the summer out of nowhere, seeking a job from his old Transfiguration teacher. Out of sympathy, Dumbledore enabled the young man to take on the instilled Defense Against the Dark Arts class, but his gut feeling gives him a point to keep an eye on him for the rest of the year. Besides, the loyalty of his staff and the peaceful setting of the castle is enough to really sheild the students from what sort of troubles may happen in the future...for now...right?
Through all of the changes, some still remain the same. With seniority, the seventh-years are seizing control by gaining the attentions of their peers, dominating the subjects of ghost and human gossip alike. But there have been many changes throughout, senses of difference lingering. Even the infamous Marauders, the four Gryffindor 7th years known for their notoriety and habitual run-ins with Professor McGonagall as well as the rest of the staff, seemed to have toned down in their behavior this year. Perhaps the maturity came late, with all the realizations that occur towards their final year of education? Or maybe, just maybe, is it because of the rapid changes and developments in their ever-changing love and social lives?
Love seems to be the major subject and causes of these things. James Potter, now Head Boy, finally won the heart of Lily Evans - the Head Girl and red-haired beauty that was too smart for him, the same one that hated his guts when they were 5th years - after all of these years of trying. And even Sirius Black, the womanizer and flirt extraordinaire, has seemingly settled down into an affectionate relationship with Clarissa Kingsley, who "isn't just any ordinary girl," as he would say - and she isn't - she's the Minister of Magic's daughter. Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew aren't that far behind their peers' progressing relationships - then again, even the venomous Slytherins are indulging in their affairs as well, though considerably less mushy than the rest of the school.
But as love grows, secret and stronger motives grow behind the scenes. With the distraction and assimilation of the Gryffindors, the Slytherins seem to have slightly come to a standstill in their rivalries and jeerings of the opposing houses like usual. The cause? Tom Riddle is suspicious-looking, slowly getting closer and closer in friendships with some like Severus Snape and Lucius Malfoy, amongst all the other students from his own former house. Where will this lead them? Will trouble soon boil over and ruin the last year of their stay at Hogwarts?
The rest of the story lies in your hands.
